This year thanks to the pandemic and the quarantine I spent a lot of my free time watching TV shows. I am going to list the best TV shows (for me) of the 2020.
10. His Dark Materials (Season 1)
I started this year by watching His Dark Materials, the show is based on the book The Golden Compass. The plot, the perfomances, the CGI and the soundtrack are terrific. I am looking forward to watching the second season next year.
Patria is definitely one of the best Spanish TV shows I have ever seen. It gives you a view of the terrorist group ETA from the eyes of two women divided by a murder. The perfomances, the production and the plot (adapted from the book) are outstanding.
Unorthodox is not as popular as the ones I mentioned before but it is one of the best shows I have seen in Netflix. It gives you a tough insight about the Jewish Orthodox community through the eyes of a young girl. Both the plot and the performances are breathtaking. This is another miniseries you can binge-watch in a whole weekend.
7. Sucession (Season 1 — 2)
Sucession is another show which plot I did not feel attracted to although after reading rave reviews I give it a try. The reason it appears in this list is because of its second season which was indeed excited specially with that twist ending. Although it might be slow at the beginning it gets better with each episode, once you get to know more about the Roy family you want more.
6. The Crown (Season 4)
I was expecting this season for a whole year and definitely it lived up to my expectations. I was really excited to finally see Princess Diana and Margaret Tatcher in the show. Both actresses were incredible in their roles and the resemblace of Emma Corrin with Diana was uncanny. Although it overshadowed a little bit the Queen’s story and some scenes felt very “soup-opera”, this is without doubt one of the best seasons.
5. Killing Eve (Season 3)
Killing Eve is currently one of my TV shows so it is not a suprise it appears in this list. Personally, I found the third season superior than its predecessors, one of the things that I liked the most was to get to know better Villaneve past and background also seeing how Eve and Villaneve relationship growing closer. After that season ending I am looking forward to seeing how its going to continue next year.
4. Queen’s Gambit
Queen’s Gambit might be the TV show of the year, there is no place you can not find an article about this series. I must admit that I was not interested in the plot but as I have watched Anya Taylor-Joy in other projects I gave it a try and it was worth it. Although chess is not something I do really enjoy, I got excited with each episode mostly thanks to the terrific perfomance of the lead actress and the gripping plot.
3. Bojack Horseman (Season 6)
The final season of Bojack Horseman was one of the best endings I have ever seen, I am not going to make any spoilers but while you are watching each season you get a clear idea of the main character’s fate. This season had a more deeper plot which focused mainly on Bojack facing off his own demons and giving a closure to each character.
2. The Boys (Season 1 — 2)
Another TV show that I binged watched was The Boys, although I am not a big superheros fan, I became completely hooked to the plot of this series and its second season was superior to its predecessor specially with that mind-blowing twist ending.
1. Schitt’s Creek (Season 1–6)
After the Emmys this year, I was suprised that I have not seen yet the TV show which sweep most of the awards (including Best Comedy). I binged watched all the season and without doubt this became one of my favorite series of all time. I loved the character’s development in each season (specially Alexis). You can not imagine how the Rose family made me laugh and cry.
